An Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, since 1936 a senior painting and composition theory lecturer at the Surikov Art Institute. An outstanding Soviet painter, graphic and professor of Arts. Among his pupils are famous artists V.F. Stozharov, V.Ivanov, A.Tutunov, I.Sorokin, A.Tkachev and M.Birshtain. In the childhood he lived at the orphanage "Sprightly life" (Kaluga region), where studied drawing under the tutelage of A.I. Troyanovskiy (created a series of still-lives in Sezanne manner). Since 1916 was close to P. Konchalovskiy who had a great influence over him. In the 1924-30s studied in VKhUTEMAS-VKhUTEIN (The All-Union Art Workshops). In the 1930s worked as a book-illustrator and a stage designer of street holidays and processions. Later began specializing in easel landscape painting. In the middle of the 1930s took great interest in the industrial thematic.
His works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Archangelsk Museum of Arts; Rostov Museum of Arts, Voskresensk Gallery and in many other art galleries.
