He has travelled a lot around the country and visited the Urals, Siberia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Karelia and Komi Republic which found reflection in his paintings.
His oils inspired by the beauty of nature are strikingly bright and colourful.
He was friends with Rashid Maksyutov and Veniamin Safonov also from Podolsk
as well with the painters from the Vladimir School. Stylistically they influenced each other.
Paintings by Yuri Matushevski are displayed in many museums of Russia and the former USSR: the Frunze Picture Gallery of the Kirghiz State, the Novgorod Art Museum, the Ryazan Art Museum, the People’ s Picture Gallery in the village Solnechny, Kalinin Region, the State Picture
Gallery in Serpuchov and in Blagovechensk.
His works can be found also in well-known private collections in Russia and abroad.
