Gorelov Gavriil Nikitich. Prominent russian painter. Full member of the Academy of Fine Arts of theUSSR. Merited Artist of Russia. Stalin Prize winner of 1950. Creator of famous historical compositions.
Primarily studied at Penza art school under K.Savitski.Began exhibiting from 1904. In 1906 became the winner of Prize of the Society for promotion arts. Entered the Academy of Fine arts, where his tutor was of I.Repin. After graduation from the Academy received an honorary award – an educative journey abroad at the Academy’s expense. In 1911 – 1912 G.Gorelov worked in Italy, Germany, France. In 1911 became the winner of the gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Munich.
In the 1920s - member of AkhRR (Association of Revolutionary artists). Participant of all major exhibitions of soviet art in the country and abroad. Gorelov’s works preserved at the State Tretyakov Gallery , at the Central Museum of Armed Forces , at the Central Museum of Revolution in Moscow; at the State Russian Museum in St.Petersburg and at the Museums of Saratov, Lvov, Odessa, Irkutsk, Dnepropetrovsk , etc.
