Andrei Andreevich Tutunov was born in Moscow in 1928. He first studied at the Moscow Intermediate Art School from 1940-1947 under V.V. Pochitailo. He then studied at the Surikov from 1948-1954 under professors V.G. Tsyplakov, and M.E. Kurilko. Since 1960 he has taught in the Pereslavl-Zalesski art studio in Moscow. Tutunov's early works were typified by landscape, scenes in provincial towns, and genre paintings illustrating country life. In the 1980's he turned to religious subjects. He married fellow artist I.V. Shevandronova.
