Vasili Nechitailo was born January 9, 1915 in Moscow. He graduated in 1942 from the Surikov Art Institute, where he studied under the famous Soviet artist Sergei Gerasimov. In 1944 Nechitailo became a member of the Union of Moscow Artists. From 1948-56 he was a professor at the Moscow State Art Institute. He was named People's Merited Artist of the Soviet Union in 1965. Twice he received the Repin State Award and became a member of the Art Academy. Nechitailo worked in Spain, Bulgaria, Italy and participated in many regional and all-Union exhibitions in the former Soviet Union.
He travelled a lot in his country and abroad. 1946-1948 creative trips to Kuban and Don, 1949 – 1951 village Bakinskaya and Goryachi Klyuch, 1954 Virgin Land (Altai region ), 1957 – 1959 Kuban, 1960 Ryasan region, 1961 –1962 Tarusa and Pereslavl-Salesski, 1961 – 1963 Kuban and Don, 1964 China, 1969 Chuvashia and Vologda region, 1970 Spain, 1971 Bulgaria, 1972 Salsk region, 1974 Italy, 1975 Rostov region.
In 1965 he was awarded with the Silver Medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. The State Prize Laureate in 1971. Author of historical-revolutionary paintings, portraits of contemporaries, scenes of country life. The works are kept in the Tretyakov State Gallery, many Moscow and regional museums, private collections in Russia and abroad: USA, Germany, Italy, England, China, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Netherlands, France.
