He was born in 1922 in the village of Gavrilovkoye, Ryazan Region.
1939-1942 studied at Moscow Intermediate Art School under V.Pochitalov.
1944-1945 as a military artist of the Studio named after M.B. Grekov he was present at many fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
Graduated from the Surikov State Art Istitute in Moscow where he studied under S.Gerasimov in 1951.
Sincerity, poetic, expressiveness, the innate gift of a colourist and originality of manner – these are the features typical of Sorokin’s art.
Since 1953 he has taken part in art exhibitions.
Sorokin’s artworks are included in the collections of numerouse museums of Russia: the Tretyakov Art Gallery, the Russian Museum, the State Art Museum of the Moldavian SSR, the State Art Museum of Kazakh SSR, the Altai, the Komsomolsk-on-Amur and the Donetsk Art Museum, the Vilnius State Art Museum of the Lithuanian SSR, the Primorye Picture Gallery of Local Lore, the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts of the Karelian ASSR, the Akmolinsk Museum of Local Lore, the Kramatorsk State Picture Gallery, the Art Museums of Tatar ASSR and Uzbek SSR, The Nikolayev Regonal Art Museum, museums abroad: Czechoslovakia, Bratislava, the Museum of Modern Art, Germany Cologne (the collection of Dr. P. Ludwig). Artworks are in private collections abroad: Germany (Nicolay und Sohn), USA, Japan, Greece, Italy.
