Dmitri Nalbandyan was born in 1906 in Tiflis (Georgia).
Studied at Tiflis Academy of Fine Arts 1924-29. Active in Moscow.
The artist graduated from the Academy of Arts , Tiflis, in 1929. Studied under E. Lansere and E. Tatevosyan.
Began exhibiting 1935. Became a Soviet academician 1947. Awarded Stalin Prizes 1946, 1951; titled People’s Artist of the USSR. One of the most notorious of Soviet court painters; glorifier of Lenin, Stalin and Brezhnev; also painted still-lifes, landscapes.
Important shows include "Twenty Years of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army" Moscow, 1939; "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1955; "Soviet Russia" Moscow, 1960.
Died in Moscow 1993.
His one-man shows were held in Erevan - 1962, Kiev - 1965, Tbilisi, Milan (Italy) - 1966, Moscow - 1963, 1965, 1968, 1976, 1982, Paris, Tokio - 1978, Leningrad, Budapest - 1965, 1977, India (8 cities) - 1970.
