Nikolai Ivanovich Barchenkov is the oldest painter in Sergiev-Posad when he dies in 2002. He made a remarkable contribution to the cultural life of the town and to the development of Moscow Region realistic painting. Nokolai Ivanovich Barchenkov was born in Sergiev-Posad 1918. In 1935 Nikolai Ivanovich entered the Moscow Regional Art School , there they treated with great respect the heritage of the great Russian artists: Ilya Repin, Konstantin Korovin, Valentin Serov, Isaak Levitan. In 1939 he graduated from the Moscow regional art school of the Memory of 1905. The painter with gratitude and warmness remembers his teachers-artists N. Krymov, S. Frolov, G. Gorelov. The creative atmosphere of the art school, communication with interest of the well-known personalities had a beneficial effect on the forming of a future painter. Barchenkov is justly recognized as a painter conveying an original beauty of Russian country-side in landscape and still-life. Sergiev-Posad, its history and contemporary expressiveness of old Russian architectural ensemble of the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, portray the town where he knows and loves every corner since his childhood.
